WordPress Tutorial: Reset Your Password

If you have forgotten your WordPress website password and you can no longer log in, your best option is to reset your password. The following ten step tutorial will help you to gain access to your website again.

  1. Go to your website’s login page, www.your-domain-name.com.au/admin
    • An easy way to get to your login page is to first go to your home page and then add ‘/admin’ to the end of the web address, as follows: your-domain-name/admin.
  2. Hit the enter key to get redirected to your login page.
  3. Click on the Lost your password? link.
Click the 'Lost your password?' link.
  4. Type in your email address. Note: it should be the email address you were using when you were able to login successfully. If you don’t use that email address anymore, you will need to contact your website administrator.
  5. Click on the Get New Password button
  6. Check your email. You should receive an email message containing a link to reset your password.
  7. Click on the reset password link to be taken to the page for resetting your password.
  8. You will be able to accept a new password that will be generated for you or you can replace it with a different one you will find easier to remember (e.g. the sky is all blue). Make sure you will be able to recall or retrieve your password in the future. If you store it somewhere make sure it is in a secure place.
  9. Click on the Reset Password button.
  10. Click on the Log in link.
